Pinkberry Koreatown Opens

When it rains, it pours...

Yes friends, the long-awaited Koreatown Pinkberry is now open, and I dare say it's the best Pinkberry yet.

Why?

Because it's freakin' HUGE!

At nearly four times the size of the West Hollywood location, the Koreatown Pinkberry has a row of about 15 tables you can fight over, seating for nearly 40 (lots of long benches), and an entire public street where you can line up without being harrassed by angry neighbors. The place appears custom-built for a yogurt-frenzied mob, and if the first opening hours are any indication, it will be very soon.

Their yogurt machines are fully stocked, and when I arrived Friday evening, an army of super-pretty-cute yogurtista trainees shouted a warm hello to all who walked in. Now that's something the WeHo location could take a lesson from...

On to the yogurt. You know the drill.
It the best thing you'll ever put in your mouth... manna from heaven... crackberry... heroin... etc. etc.

But last night I discovered something new.

Now, I really shouldn't be telling you this, but you can get the green tea and original yogurt flavors swirled! It's not on the menu, but if you pay the higher green tea price and ask really really nicely, they just might hook you up. The combination of both flavours is awesome and I wouldn't be surprised if it pops up as a secret menu item in the coming days (think In n' Out).

When you've eaten as much yogurt as you can handle (which in my case was a medium plain, then a small swirl, then 30 bites of Brian's large), you can shop. The baselit glass shelves are stocked with the world's cutest kitchen and home furnishings from Italian super-design store Alessi.

Right now they're just on display, but the plan is that everything will be available for purchase very soon.

They also have plans to expand the space, with room for a cafe next door and possibly even a salon of some sort. Before you know it, you'll be fully indoctrinated into the Pinkberry lifestyle, which, actually, would be a pretty awesome thing.

But the best part about the Koreatown Pinkberry? You've got an entire parking garage to clog up...

New York just got its first Pinkberry. I walked by yesterday without sampling anything. I feel like such a fool! I thought it was just another frozen yogurt shop. Until I read your post, I had no idea what I was missing. Now I'll have to hurry back and give it a try.

I, too, was at the K-Town PB on Friday night! I have to say that ou got some nice photos -- I was very angrily snapped at when I was caught trying to shoot some from my lousy camera phone, so you must have been sneakier than I. I do like the decor and design of this place, and PB overall far outshines its competitors. But they DO take themselves a little seriously (they weigh each order to make sure that they have given you exactly the number of ounces in a small, med or large serving, the aforementioned "no photography" policy).

But their product is good, so I forgive them.

My only complaint...the flooring material. It's pourous. It is lovely to look at, little pebbles all sort of laminated together with an acrylic sheen. But because there are all sorts of nooks and crannies, I wonder how it will stand the test of the many toppings that fall into the grooves. It may not be pretty after a few months.

Also, it's fun to note the different clientele that frequents each PB. By far, the K-Town location is the most fun, since it's a lot of Korean families that seem like their prayers for a 'tart yogurt' joint to open have been answered after a long diasporic wait. The La Brea and WeHo locations are closer to the 'Hollywood' types and I would not be surprised if Vinnie Chase is dragged to PB by an actress girlfriend on the next installment of Entourage episodes.

I slapped down my $3.50 on Tuesday to see if the PB experience could live up to the hype and am happy to report it was quite satisfying. I went for the bare-***ed original, figuring I'd start there to see what we got, then build out... kinda the same theory used to judge a good hot dog (although I think tacos and burritos should be taken with all the trimmings). Next time, I'll do the twist, which someone directly in front of me was doing, so word is OUT baby. From there, I plan to move on to fruit... and finally, to the indulgent Captain Crunch, chocolate, and (some other third thing) combo.

When this hits Larchmont (ok, IF it hits Larchmont), it's going to be nuts. Absolutely nuts. It's hard enough to park there already. This could make it as bad as Sunday morning farmers' market, 24/7.

I'm only asking you this because I can't find the info on the internet and you seem to be the expert:

Any idea about the nutritional information in the stuff?? I'm particularly interested in sugar content, if you know it! Thanks!

hey iturnedouttv -
they SAY it's 25 calories an ounce (the medium is 8 ounces). however, I can't help but think of the Seinfeld non-fat frozen yogurt episode... maybe I'll have to take it to a chem lab to be sure. it tastes too good to be true.
