National Pocky Day!

Hey everyone! Next Saturday, November 11th, is National Pocky Day!

To celebrate, I'll be hosting an Online Pocky Party all week long! What was your first Pocky experience like? Have a special Pocky memory or photo? What's your favourite Pocky flavour? Leave a comment or email me at rosiecolleen@gmail.com.

Don't be caught empty handed on National Pocky Day - check out Famima!! for a great selection of Pocky flavours. In the meantime, please enjoy these awesome commercials from Japan.

How come we don't get commercials like this in the U.S.?

Despite anything I could possibly tell you, nothing will prepare you for the awesomeness of this next one.

And finally, WOW! Where can I get Pocky G? I've gotta try this!

OH MY GOD!! WTF was THAT??!! Ok, the first one was SO the inspiration for many a Janet Jackson video. *snicker* And whoa--the middle one-were they in a poppy field?? Were they HIGH?? And as for that last one--that puts every Jean Claude Van Damme action flick to SHAME, honey!

I gotsta get me some of this stuff. Off to Famima WeHo with me!!

haha - I actually know the girl-group from the top CM ~ Morning Musume! (a popular japanese pop troupe known for frequent member roster changes -- and for having around 10 singers at any given time.)

My favorite pocky is definitely the almond crush ones (with the dark "Men's Pocky" as a closer runner-up)-- and I totally don't get the Pocky "Decor" (the one with piles and piles of artificial flavored frosting on top) -- blargh!

but thanks for the reminder -- something for me to keep in mind of when I'm in little tokyo tomorrow ;)

I am a traditionalist. I like good old plain original Pocky. Though I have wanted to try the men's pocky just to be rebellious. Not into the pink...sometimes I like me a box of Pretz.

Those commercials are amazing. What in the world did we do before YouTube? Stunningly amazing.

OMG a full-on pocky soiree - love it!
I was 20, dating a Japanese hottie, and shopping at the defunct Yaohan's plaza in Little Tokyo. The pink pockies caught my eye, and he promptly purchased a box and promised it would change my life.
I fell in love!
With the pocky, not the boy. So he was right!

Happy pocky parties :)

I can't remember my first Pocky experience, but my best Pocky experience was when I was ten. My dad came back from Japan with a box of Giant Pocky.

You've started a Pocky madness!!!

I've gotten my students hooked on Pocky. I give them a Pocky if they do their homework. And so far Pocky's gotten 100% of the class on point with their HW.

My favoriteessst flavor is Maccha Mousse Pocky! Oishii so!

What a fun idea! I love Pocky. In high school, I'd always bring a few boxes to class when we were going to have an English exam and pass them out for good luck. Good times.

Gentleman's Pocky followed by the Strawberry Pocky with the bits of strawberry. Definitely not a fan of Giant Pocky. The chocolate to cookie ratio is all effed up there.

Morning Musume is wrong on so many levels, yet I can't seem to turn away...

Great post Pinkberry... ooh now that's an idea... frozen pinkberry pocky combination. i think if fiore/pb offered broken up pocky in their yogurt, it'll revive the whole trend. i grew up eating chocolate pocky b/c that was the only flavor chinese markets had. it was until i went to japanese markets, that i saw variety... melon, strawberry, etc. see you guys this weekend???

Pocky is a meditative snack - more process than substance. Here's my fave Pocky memory: sitting on a bus in Chicago, opening a pack of strawberry Pocky, selecting a stick like I'm a three-packs-a-day smoker about to go cold turkey, and then crunching thoughtfully while staring out the window (repeating this process until the Pocky is gone, of course!) It sounds silly, but to me, this is the magic of Pocky.
